Wandering around Aarau, the City of Gables, makes you wonder if it has been hermetically sealed through the last centuries as the old part within the city walls has survived so intact.
Time seems to have stood still there.

A group of BRA NW region members visited the town and marvelled at the streets of beautiful old houses with their colourfully painted gables, whilst enjoying the illuminating tour given by a lovely city guide.
She described it’s history since it was founded around 1472 and it’s changing rulers from Kyburg to Hapsburg to the Bernese.
The city was even, for a few brief months, the capital of Switzerland.

Lunch was in the Restaurant Tuchlaube, a picturesque building that had formerly been home to cloth manufacturers, and afterwards there was time for another wander around before the SBB got us speedily home again.
