#GREATVisits with Ambassador Squire:
To truly understand a country and its culture, it is vital to experience as much of it as possible. Such is the motto of the British Embassy Berne’s #GREATVisits, which launched when His Majesty’s Ambassador, James Squire, arrived in January 2023.
So far, Ambassador Squire has had the pleasure of visiting the cantons of Geneva, Jura, Basel-Stadt and Graubünden, as well as the Principality of Liechtenstein… and many more cantons will follow, with St. Gallen and Nidwalden in the coming months!
Ambassador Squire’s goal is to visit all 26 cantons and Liechtenstein during his posting, meeting officials, businesses, schools, universities, and – crucially – the British community. With the aim of building on the deep understanding of Switzerland at all levels – federal, cantonal, and communal; an asset when promoting and strengthening the bilateral relations between our two democratic, innovative countries.
The UK and Switzerland have a long-standing relationship, sharing political, economic, and social values. Our synergies have formed the basis for successful collaboration in various fields, including Business, Finance, Science and Technology, Education and Security.
Additionally, these visits let Ambassador Squire and the Embassy reach parts of Switzerland where the UK has historically not been as present, so we can promote the UK in all its glory and forge new connections with a plethora of stakeholders.
The visits also enable the Embassy to deepen its ties with the vibrant British community in Switzerland, learning more about the hard work Brits do to advance UK-Swiss relations across the board. We hope some of you have had the chance to enjoy the BRA-focused events we have hosted during these visits, such as the British Tea Party in Geneva, the Holbein Art Tour in Basel-Stadt, and the Celebration of Winter Sports in Graubünden.
