As we step into a new year, we take a moment to reflect on the remarkable milestones we achieved together in the closing months of 2025. One of the highlights was the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Locarno Treaties, signed in 1925 at the Foreign Office in London. These historic agreements symbolise the spirit of Locarno: a vision of hope and cooperation. To this day, the room where the treaties were signed proudly bears the Locarno name as a reminder of where they originated in Ticino and the strong ties between our two nations, reminding us of the enduring importance of dialogue in shaping peace.
We welcomed Welsh Minister of Culture & Sport, Jack Sargeant to celebrate Richard Burton’s Centenary in Céligny, the village where he lived and is buried, unveiling one of the famous ‘Heritage Plaques’ at his former home. With moving Welsh anthems sung by BRA Romandie West member Kirsty Griffiths around the candle lit grave, Dylan Thomas recitals and a showing of acclaimed film Mr Burton, the event was concluded with the inauguration of Place Richard Burton in his memory, alongside President of the Geneva Council of State Thierry Apothéloz. In 2025, the Ambassador’s Cantonal Visits continued at pace, and we reached number 18! We look forward to completing this tour of Switzerland, starting with Zürich and Schwyz in January. Here’s to building on this spirit in 2026, with new projects, collaborations, and celebrations ahead!
