Message from the British Embassy, Bern
HMA James Squire farewell message
Dear members of the British Residents’ Association,
As my time as His Majesty’s Ambassador draws to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the British Residents’ Association and all its members, as well as your indefatigable Hon. Chairwoman Angela Meier-Jones, for the warmth, friendship and support you have shown me during my time in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
The British community plays an enormously important role in strengthening the bonds between the United Kingdom and our Swiss and Liechtenstein partners. Through your work, activities, networks and friendships, you help bring our countries and communities closer together. It has been a genuine pleasure to meet so many of you, and I will leave with very fond memories of the occasions we have shared.
As we approach the festive season, I wish you and your families a very happy and peaceful Christmas, and good health, happiness and success in the New Year.
I am also delighted to welcome my successor, Olivia Ricketts, who will take up her appointment in January. I know that the British Residents’ Association will extend to her the same warm welcome and generous support that you have given me.
Thank you once again for everything, and my very best wishes to you all for 2027 and beyond.
James Squire
His Majesty’s Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein
