#GREATVisits with Ambassador Squire

British Embassy Berne’s mission to discover the best that
Switzerland has to offer through #GREATVisits to Swiss
cantons took us all over the country in 2024. As we start 2025
with some new exciting opportunities, we would like to reflect
on the highlights from those visits.

From St. Gallen to Valais, Basel-Land to Zug and to both Obwalden and
Nidwalden, His Majesty’s Ambassador James Squire had the chance to see
many facets of Swiss life, business, politics, culture and more.

Ambassador Squire was welcomed by academic institutions like the University
of St. Gallen (HSG), was given a yodelling lesson up the Stanserhorn, visited
the geographic centre of Switzerland in Obwalden, heard about the pilgrimage
route of the Via Francigena that connects Canterbury to the Great St. Bernard
Pass, met with many businesses such as Ricola and Holcim, greeted
government representatives and much more.

These visits allow us to not only to discover what makes Switzerland the
vibrant and welcoming place that it is, but also to meet the people that make it
stand out as a hub of business and innovation worldwide. We strive to deepen
our connections and further enhance the strong ties the UK shares with
Switzerland.

This would not be possible without the wonderful British community present in
Switzerland, which is at the heart of the work we do to promote the UK’s
greatness and build new and lasting connections across the country.
We thank you for your continued support and look forward to seeing you this
year for our next visits, including Ticino, Aargau and more!
