Visit to Villa del Balbianello
With the perfect weather, the arrival by boat which goes back and forth every 15-20 minutes for visitors to the Villa, set the mood for this day. Romantic Lake Como, fascinating collections in a villa left intact by the previous owner to the FAI, and lovingly maintained by them, followed by lunch outside further along […]
September – Sunday Brunch
We were a mixed bunch at this month’s brunch in Sierre but that didn’t stop the conversation from flowing. How could we resist Chanterelle mushrooms “en croute”, or the tasty well garnished pancakes, or even the freshly prepared salads. A trip to Zenhäusern bakery and tea-room also requires tasting some of the delicious pastries… Our […]
Non-BRA Event – Anglophone BRISOLÉE!
We had our usual Valaisan blue skies for the annual Anglophone Brisolée. Although this was not a BRA event, there were many BRA Members present, which was great to catch up and non-members who were new people to meet. When we arrived Cynthia had decorated the wooden tables with wine leaves, fruits, nuts and orange […]
Lost Chapels and Cloisters Exhibition & Refreshments at the Kantorei Restaurant
For the second time members visited the Haus Zum Rech to glance this time at a recreation by the city archives of photos of religious buildings that disappeared at the Reformation or later, particularly interesting was the St Anna Chapel superimposed on the shoe department which now stands in its place. Afterwards a chat in […]
Horse drawn carriage drive through the Cheyres Nature Reserve (Fribourg)
On a warm and sunny September afternoon six Members met at the charming restaurant “Le Moulinet” in the picturesque town of Estavayer-Le-Lac to enjoy a Chinese lunch together. Afterwards our carriage, drawn by two well-groomed horses, was awaiting us to take us on a rather jerky ride through the beautiful forest of the Cheyres Nature […]
Second Visit – Queen Victoria in Lucerne
The first meeting with a talk by Peter Arengo Jones was so popular that a second was planned with his speech concentrating more on the Anglo-Prussian relationship in view of the Franco Prussian war. The museum had a small well displayed exhibition and an excellent one-woman recreation of the visit. Diana Divo
(Non BRA Event) – British Car Meeting
This year Rolls Royce was the subject. Although quite some way from Zürich a few car enthusiasts trekked down to Glarner land and thoroughly enjoyed their visit which was made better by the welcoming hospitality of the Glarus English Club. It is hoped that our two clubs will meet again soon. Diana Divo
Summer BBQ
Once again boiling hot, as is usual for our summer barbecue! This year we had to change plans and everyone bought cold meats along. The no grilling restriction applied to us as the hut we hold the event in is too near to the woods. Nobody minded and so we enjoyed the day just as […]
Scones and Strawberry Tea
Strawberry tea and cucumber sandwiches, my favourite! A little different this year as the sun was absent, but there was an interesting talk on living in Pakistan soon after the 2nd World War, then afterwards Kevin showed his skills on the ukelele and led us in a sing song. Great. Diana Divo
July – Sunday Brunch
A group of BRA members and non-members met up at Zenhäusern bakery and tea-room in Sierre on a sunny and very hot Sunday morning in July. We all started with a coffee and introductions were made to some new comers to the group. Those of us who wanted to eat, chose a dish from the […]
