You are invited to a behind-the-scenes guided tour of the Grand Théâtre de Genève. The visit, in English, lasts about an hour and a half, followed by an optional lunch at the nearby Café-Restaurant du Grütli. (Pay for what you consume). We will meet in the theatre foyer at 10:45 in order to start the visit promptly. (Limited to 20 participants).
Built in 1879, the theatre has the largest stage in Switzerland and is home to the Geneva Opera House and the Geneva Ballet Company. Each season it stages nine operas, three dance productions and a broad range of recitals and cultural, youth-friendly or festive events.
Gutted by fire in 1951, the building and its facade retain their original Beaux-Arts style whereas the wood-panelled auditorium, seats 1500 and boasts a spectacular metal safety curtain that extends into the ceiling where 1200 stars shine as house lights.
