Bring your guests, children or grandchildren, to enjoy the museum with us. It was created from 1935 in one of the old buildings of the border-control customs, but transformed into a inter-active museum in 1994. It is only accessible by boat, and tells us about all the smuggling that used to go on, amongst other things. We can buy drinks and something to nibble at the Grotto Teresa or the Grotto Descanso. For the full lunch, it would be best to book. There is the option of bringing a sandwich to eat on the boat or in the garden next to the museum. The museum opens at 13.30. Marie-Laure Bosco has booked the small round terrace overlooking the garden where our tea or drinks would be served. This would be an opportunity to get together informally after the holidays, in a lovely setting, to catch up on news and make plans for future outings together. Marie-Laure has also found us the possibility of a minibus and driver or a small bus, for our days away visiting within a couple of hours or so of Lugano. I have been in touch with this company, and have now been sent some quotes for 3 possible days out : Pavia/Vigevano, Turin and surroundings and Piacenza. I now need a clear idea of your interest and commitment, since we would need to pay in advance for the minibus & driver. Cost: According to your choice of drink Reservations to: Mrs Patty Pellegrini, Via Baroffio 1, 6850 Mendrisio, tel:091 6465352, email@example.com Mrs Penny Osti, tel/fax: 091 9701654. J.M.W. Turner, the world famous English painter, travelled around Switzerland several times in search of spectacular motifs. While doing so, he visited Lucerne repeatedly to study the unique interplay of light and weather, lake and mountains there. He captured his impressions in sketches and vibrant watercolours. These observations and depictions both of the sea, during his crossing to the continent, and of the alps were of major importance for Turner, in them the beauty and dangers of nature combine directly with the theme of the sublime, which was of fundamental significance for Romanticism.
