Without doubt everyone must have wondered where the rubbish sack goes when it is chucked unceremoniously into the communal collecting zones…. Well this is your chance to see exactly what happens ! We have organized a visit to the Ticino incinerator plant in Giubiasco where rubbish from the whole of the canton is brought ready to be burnt. We have arranged a guided tour (in Italian only) where we will be taken through the Plant having heard beforehand how, why and when all this happens. Comfortable non.slip shoes are recommended as there are various stairs to use and the floors are not made for high fashion footwear ! After the visit we will be having lunch at our ‘usual’ place – La Tureta, Giubiasco. Having been there twice before, we found the menu/price excellent, the staff most accommodating and the surroundings just perfect. Contact us no later than 1 week before for car-pooling. Meet: At 10am for car-sharing from lugano for 10 :45 rdv Giubiasco Cost: Visit to Plant free ; pay for what you consume for lunch. Our outing for February will be a visit to the Villa Panza in Varese, Italy. This palatial building was constructed in the 18th century and is now owned and operated by the Fondo Ambiente Italiano (FAI) which is Italy’s equivalent of the National Trust. The very interesting collection of minimalist art was built up with visionary insight by Giuseppe Panza di Biumo between the late 1950’s and 2010 and is scattered around this elegant villa with its antique furniture which makes it an altogether interesting experience. There are over 150 artworks all by contemporary artists and the Collection is well worth seeing. Our guided tour in English is by Patrik Carroll who is the Vice President of FAI in Switzerland. Afterwards lunch will be in the restaurant at the villa. If the day is fine weather-wise we can also walk around the extensive garden too. Please let Penny or Beverly know no later than 1 week before whether you would like to participate in this highly recommended visit, as we hope to organise car-pooling. Meet: At 9am for car-sharing from Lugano in time for 10.15 guided visit. Cost: €12 but free for FAI members Plus your share of €130 for […]

In 2020 we were sad to miss the visit to this world-famous garden, because of lockdown, but very much look forward to be able to enjoy the glorious magnolia and scented Daphne all underplanted with carpets of flowers. Sheila has offered two possible dates, March 22 and April 15, in case we have a very hard winter, there may not be many magnolias etc in flower. She very generously said that if members were coming from afar, one date might suit them better than the other, so they would have a choice.2021.
