We are looking forward to welcoming BRA members and friends to a fun, family day out, at our annual Queen’s Birthday Party, this year we are back at the same venue as last year. There is an adequate sized lawn to play croquet, which is right next to the covered terrace, where we can sit in comfort to watch the game while waiting to play your turn. We are honoured again this year with the presence of The President of the Swiss Croquet Association, Mr. Dave Underhill who organises us into teams and explains how this very British traditional game is played. No need to know how to play in order to participate in a team. There will also be other games available like; Darts, Petanque, Cards, etc… Bring your own picnic & drinks (Gas grill to BBQ meat or sausages available) The fully equipped canteen has a kitchen, tables and chairs for 40+ people inside and out. Local Valisanne Bakery/Tea-Room, Zenhäusern in Sierre “Chez Zen” have agreed to prepare for us a full English breakfast consisting of :- Fresh orange juice 2 slices of bacon, 2 sausages, 2 eggs, tomato (2 halves), Baked beans, mushrooms, toast & butter Coffee or tea, for the price of CHF: 19.90.- pp Vegetarian option also available 🙂 There is also a huge selection of food and drink to choose from on their regular menu. The Romandie East Book Club will meet on the 3rd Wednesday of every month, please find dates below. The first meeting will take place on Wednesday 21st August 2019 and titles to be discussed will be published after this date. This reading group will meet up to discuss books, which can be read in any language, but will be discussed in English. On a visit to the Warrior Games in the USA in 2013, HRH Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, saw how the power of sport can help physically, psychologically and socially ex-Armed Services personnel suffering from injuries and illness. Inspired by his visit, he started the Invictus (meaning “Unconquered”) Games, the first of which took place in London in 2014. The 5th Games will be in The Netherlands in 2020. As 2019 marks the 80th Anniversary of the start the Second World War and the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings in Normandy to liberate Western Europe from Nazi Germany’s occupation, it was decided, with the support of British associations in Switzerland, including the BRA, that a concert should be held to mark the anniversaries and to raise funds for the Invictus Games Foundation. BRA members from all regions will be most welcome at the concert. The concert will feature the Brass Band Arquebuse, Switzerland’s leading ensemble in the brass band style, the Pipes and Drums Band of Geneva, a massed choir and soloists.
