The Abbatiale (Abbey Church) is the largest Romanesque/Clunisian church in Switzerland. The museum occupies the historic complex of the 11th century Abbey Church. It houses frescoes from the end of the 12th to the beginning of the 13th century. Paintings – notably by Aimée Rapin, painter without arms (1868-1956) – are presented to the public, as well as a collection, in memory of General Antoine-Henri Jomini (1779-1869), originally from Payerne, Brigadier General of the French Imperial Army, then Russian Lieutenant General, great tactician and military writer.
