The BRA truly proved itself to be a lively and thriving Swiss-wide British Association by not only holding its 2018 Annual Meeting , for the first time in the Association’s history, in the north-west corner of the land, but also by the meeting and luncheon being attended by some 60 members from all regions of the BRA.  Regional Chairmen and members from the Ticino, Romandie, and the Central, North-East and North-West Regions all travelled to sunny Basel on Saturday 5th May.

The Hotel Euler, conveniently close to Basel SBB railway station, was an ideal and welcoming venue, and our thanks go to Angela Meier-Jones and Alan Chalmers for negotiating such a good deal in a prestigious Basel Hotel.

The apero gave the attending members the chance to catch up with friends from other regions of the BRA before moving on to the formal meeting. This was efficiently and expeditiously chaired by Graham Robertson and was followed by a delicious lunch in an elegant private dining room.

Our after-luncheon speaker, Dr Isobel Williams, gave a fascinating  and well-illustrated description of the brave exploits of  Ernest Shackleton on the Antarctic at a time when Europe was in the throes of the First World War.
