A traditional cream tea party was hosted in the compound of St Edward’s Anglican Church on a beautiful and hot summer afternoon on 23 June to mark HM The Queen’s 90th Birthday. It developed into a three-fold event starting in the back garden where tea with British home-made sandwiches, scones, cakes, meringues and cream were served: after that all the participants moved to the adjacent church yard to raise their glasses for a Loyal Toast to the Queen. Finally, an ‘All English Fantasy Musical Interlude’ was performed inside the church by the Ensemble Arcobaleno Oboe and Strings Quartet with a guest artist at the Cembalo. The programme started with the National Anthem, sung very proudly by the whole assembly, followed by musical pieces of Elgar, Handel, Purcell and Vaughan Williams, ending up with a welcome encore.
Well over 50 people, ranging from grandchildren to grandparents, attended this much appreciated and most joyful celebration. A particular thank you has to be paid to all the people involved in organizing such a successful event.Enrico Bernasconi
