Well, we had the golfers, hackers and walkers but the weather on Tuesday 25 October was certainly not conducive to a nice day outside. So, we deferred the event until Saturday, 29 October when the day dawned cool but sunny. Six of us turned up for a pleasant game at the small Chessel golf course nestling by the side of the River Rhône with views of the autumn-coloured trees on the nearby hills. We set off in two groups of 3, including a motley mixture of golfers and hackers. Unfortunately, Robert Macbeth, a good golfer, had to revert to walking but took the opportunity to advise wife, Annabel Patchett, on how to play. The Robertsons’ secret training was to no avail but Liz Shulkind’s practice session in Spain meant that she came in with the winning score. After that, we all sat under the canopy by the clubhouse for that which BRA does well — eating and drinking! We were grateful to Diana Crettaz who had brought a “light apero” of wine, coffee, juices, cheese, apples, biscuits, etc to snack before lunch. The conversation flowed so well that we never got to lunch!Graham Robertson
