The Museo della Barca Lariana was opened in 2018 in an establishment where silk was once spun.
It is an attractive 18th century building with a stream running down one side to the lake below.
In the 14 rooms on four floors there are 130 boats of all kinds from the early gondolas to the ‘Comballo’ for transporting mostly building materiels; from fishing boats to sailing boats and motor boats for racing.
There were famous regattas held on Lake Como (Lario) as well as races for the motorboats.
We had a pleasant lunch in San Siro, just before the turn off for Pianella del Lario.
It would be well worth another visit in due course.
The museum will close soon until next spring.
