Honouring Queen Elizabeth’s birthday
at the beautiful Belvoir Park Restaurant, near Enge station. The weather was not very kind but we gathered under the Terrace awning and could still enjoy views of the Belvoir Garden. Dani Schulz, our bagpipe player of many years welcomed everyone, mingled with guests and played in the surrounding garden. We were honoured to receive and listen to a Zurich Stadtrat. And delighted once again, and sadly for the last time, our Deputy Ambassador Richard Ridout who give an update on Embassy, and UK affairs, touching briefly on Brexit . He will be leaving Switzerland in September and taking up a new assignment in Brazil. Thank you Richard for being with us over the last four years.
Generous sponsoring from Bank Schroeder gave us once again a beautiful musical interlude of British music with the young, British Conductor, Kevin Griffiths and his Duo – violinist Arongh Griffiths and pianist Michael Wettstein. We enjoyed delicious finger foods by the Belvoir Management School, appreciated very much the presence of a young Hull School Team who looked after the Welcome Desk and a Display Table of royal memorabilia. Our NE Councillor Bob Dean, author and expert on Castles led us through the evening as our Master of Ceremonies, greeting guests and members from the North East Region, and welcoming the Corps consulaire and Zurich Chambers of Commerce. Joanna Koch thanked all who had helped to organise this event, which we hold to honour our Queen who represents and upholds today’s true values of kindness, peace, honesty and helping others
See you next year!
Joanna Koch
