To celebrate the 90th birthday of HM The Queen, the Northwest region organized a very special QBP this year on 23 June at the Grandhotel Les Trois Rois in the centre of Basle.Guest of Honour was HE The British Ambassador David Moran, who also proposed the Loyal Toast.  Official cantonal greetings were also ably presented by the Grossratspresidentin Dominique König-Lüdin representing Canton Basel Stadt and Regierungsratspresident  Dr. Anton Lauber on behalf of Canton Basel -Landschaft.

The official speeches were enjoyed in the historical setting of the Hotel Library, which was originally the first Anglican Church in Basle.  Rev. Hilary Jones of the Anglican Church Basle was also a guest on this special occasion.

Over 70 members and guests including members of the ROSL and BSCC also attending then moved to the spacious lounge and Rhine Terrace of the hotel to enjoy a convivial Apero Riche, with marvellous views over the city of Basel bathed in summer sunshine.

Whilst wines had been selected  from Baselland for the apero, the welcoming toast having been with Cremant d’Alsace, the savouries and desserts aimed to reflect the wider Commonwealth of nations.

All in all we had a memorable and very enjoyable event, despite by chance being on the day of the Referendum, we focussed on HM the Queen and all the achievements of the now longest reigning monarch of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth.
