They came down from the mountains, they came up from the lakes, they came from all over Switzerland and France too, all brought their picnics, good humour and friends.
Everyone was ready for a full day of food, fun and games.

Why? Where? When?
To celebrate the annual BRA Romandie East Region’s; Queen’s Birthday Party in Sion, on a beautiful Sunday in June.
We had had very hot weather all week, but thankfully it was a delightful 25°C (77°F) which was perfect for the day’s activities.

We all met at a new venue this year, excellent facilities and a great lawn for our games later in the day.
We started with Coffee while the Pimms and a very varied selection of delicious canapés’ were being laid out on the table. As more people arrived the volume in the room went up as greetings were heard and people met up and introductions were made.

We then all took our Picnics outside on to the covered terrace to have our feasts; there was a queue for the barbeque and some delicious smells coming from it too. People shared salads and homemade delicacies and later a great collection of wonderful desserts.

The President of the Swiss Croquet Association and his wife organised us into teams and the games began.
Two teams of two, played each other around the field, as one team was knocked out, the winners played winners until we found our four finalists.

Intrigued local people came out of their houses to watch this “strange” game; they are more used to see football played on this field.
At tea-time everyone was served with another British speciality, traditional scones, jam and cream.
Then everyone gathered around to watch the final, a very close match, as one team had our National Chairman and the other our Hon. Treasurer.

Cheers, and applause were heard, as wine and the prises from our sponsor “Aligro” in Sion, were given out to the winners by our Regional Chairman and National Chairman, with a big Thank You to the President of the Swiss Croquet Association and his wife for all their organising skills which made the day a great success.

We then loaded up our cars with less heavy picnic bags and happy hearts, looking forward to meeting again next year at this wonderful venue for more fun and games.
