It’s Sunday, May 27th 2018, the sun is shining and I’m on my way home on the train happy and replete after  a delicious brunch  at the Café Papillon in Sierre.
Thirteen of us, from as far afield as Geneva, Ticino and Visperterminen, were made very welcome by proprietress Sonja.
Over our eggs, bacon, sausage, beans, mushrooms, tomatoes and toast we enjoyed lively conversation covering such pleasant subjects as organ transplantation, safe cracking and rock cakes, and more sobering subjects such as mortgage renewal in Switzerland, and buying a car in the UK as an expat.

Café Papillon lies in a quiet street in Sierre and has a fabulous brightly coloured indoor play unit for small children to clamber through, up and round and slide down. It’s not often I wish I were smaller but this was one such occasion. Brunch was accompanied by a huge box of cherries from Deborah’s garden, and Sonja served excellent mini fairy cakes with our teas and coffees. Sonja planned to bake a cherry cake with the left over cherries, which would have been a good reason to go back the next day!
Thanks Deborah for organising such a pleasant Sunday.
