A CHRISTMAS FEAST IN FOUNEX

It was a bright and sparkly evening on 12 December when 41 Romandie West members gathered at the Auberge Communale in Founex for our much anticipated traditional Christmas dinner.  Back by very popular demand, this was the third year that Dany and his team at the Auberge have hosted us.  All tickets had been sold well before the event (note to self – book early next year!) and the Auberge was packed to the rafters by the time we sat down to a delicious dinner of roast turkey and all the trimmings.   Pam Walsh, event organizer, welcomed us and Chairman Alan Baker gave us a brief  review of activities in the RW region in 2019.

Now a well established tradition, we all had to sing for our supper with some favourite Christmas carols.  We were accompanied on the keyboard by member   Melody Suter whose playing was rather more melodious than our singing, though this did nothing to dint our enthusiasm and encouraged the waiting staff to join in.

Our Christmas feast would not be complete without the now infamous Christmas quiz written and presented by Diana Smith.  Can you think of two of Santa’s reindeer with names beginning with C?  And who was the famous Saturday Evening Post illustrator, famous for his comic drawings of Santa Claus?

After answers had been supplied and prizes awarded, the evening ended with a raucous rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas, choreographed by Ted Talbot.  This had the whole room laughing as each table in turn joined in with appropriate gestures, from geese flapping their wings to French hens laying eggs, though there was a sad lack of lords a’leaping or ladies dancing.

The evening provided an opportunity to express thanks to Alan Baker who is stepping down, having served as RW Chairman for the last two years. The role will now be shared by Jan Powell and Pam Walsh, who are looking forward to hearing from members about the kind of activities and events you enjoy.

Massive thanks are due to the event organizer Pam Walsh, to Di Smith for her Christmas quiz, to Melody Suter for her magnificent playing and to Ted Talbot who not only got us on our feet singing but also did the onerous job of accounting for the evening.
