VISIT TO VILLA TARANTO

After a short hour’s drive and a pleasant 20 minute boat ride, we were pleased to find room in the free car park at the Villa Taranto Botanical Gardens. Although we were 16, we were generously granted the group rate normally for groups of 20 or more.

Inspite of the hot weather we walked comfortably in the shade of the ancient trees, several planted in the 1600’s and 1700’s. We were able to admire the flowering Stewartia pseudocamellia and Cornus controversa amongst others and the vast lily pond, where the blooms were just opening. At the end of our exploration of this truly wonderful collection of rare and beautiful trees and shrubs, we met for a delicious lunch, prepared on the spot, sitting in the shade under large umbrellas.

It was voted a successful day, even a dream come true, and we aim to plan a visit in the spring next time, in April possibly.
