Oskar Kokoschka Exhibition

Five intrepid art lovers went to see the Kokoschka retrospective at the Zürich Kunsthaus on Saturday 9th February.  The artist, almost a vagabond, lived in Vienna, a long time in England before ending his years and changing his nationality in Switzerland. He remained true to his art, not wavering to cubism or other modern movements. […]

Concert in KKL

No, not another boring commentary on Brexit by someone who knows nothing, but part of the text of a Walt Whitman poem set to music by Ralph Vaughan Williams . . . What a lovely surprise we had on the 20th January in the KKL Luzern, a visit arranged by the BRA  with a table […]

Thirteen cheese lovers and one dog met up at The British Cheese Centre in the Zurich Viaduct Markthalle, for what has now become for some of us an annual event of enjoying British cheese and fine drinks. Mike Fontana-Jones, the British owner, has the largest selection of quality British cheeses in the world outside of […]

Second Visit – Queen Victoria in Lucerne

The first meeting with a talk by Peter Arengo Jones was so popular that a second was planned with his speech concentrating more on the Anglo-Prussian relationship in view of the Franco Prussian war. The museum had a small well displayed exhibition and an excellent one-woman recreation of the visit. Diana Divo

(Non BRA Event) – British Car Meeting

This year Rolls Royce was the subject. Although  quite some way from Zürich a few  car enthusiasts trekked down to Glarner land and thoroughly enjoyed their visit which was made better by the welcoming hospitality of the Glarus English Club. It is hoped that our two clubs will meet again soon. Diana Divo

Scones and Strawberry Tea

Strawberry tea and cucumber sandwiches, my favourite! A little different this year as the sun was absent, but there was an interesting talk on living in Pakistan soon after the 2nd World War, then afterwards Kevin showed his skills on the ukelele and led us in a sing song. Great. Diana Divo

Lunch at the Fork & Bottle Restaurant

Tried, Tested and Repeated :- Fish and Chips at the Fork and Bottle is now a regular event. This time the sun didn’t shine but we ate drank and chatted all the same. Later Gypsy and Hester enjoyed their walk and snuffle on the Allmend, or Common to Brits. Diana Divo

Remembering Queen Victoria

We were so happy to be able to arrange this event, which brought to life Queen Victoria’s visit to Lucerne in 1868 and very grateful for the support and warm welcome from Christin Lichtin, Director of the Luzern History Museum.  Some 30 Members enjoyed the event, and we were joined for the Victorian Tea by […]
